Language Issues
This activity, which can be used in a whole staff or departmental staff activity, allows staff to share information on the language issues that students face in their subjects, with the aim of finding strategies that work for the student and implementing them across the programme. Information from this activity can be used to create the student targets and, if applicable, can be shared with the students` special needs coordinator and language coordinator.
The activity gets teachers to consider:
- the language issues the student is facing, such as writing; speaking; listening; reading; subject specific vocabulary, understanding instructions; exam language; use of command terms; explaining themselves.
- the difficulties the student is having with each issue.
- strategies and resources that have worked well with the student in helping them tackle the issue.
